Cyprus Energy Agency

Savvas Vlachos holds a degree in Environmental Engineering from the Polytechnic School of Crete and a master’s in Civil Engineering from the University of Cyprus. Initially working on environmental impact assessments and waste treatment design, he joined the Cyprus Energy Agency in 2009 as an energy expert, focusing on energy efficiency, renewable energy, and sustainable action plans for local authorities. He is a certified Energy Auditor and trainer with expertise in energy audits across various 9 sectors, technical equipment usage, and training in energy-related fields. Since 2016, as the Director of the Cyprus Energy Agency, he has overseen strategic operations, managed over 40 EU-funded projects, and coordinated a €2.7M youth employment project and a €7.5M school energy upgrade initiative. Additionally, since 2017, he has served as the Local Manager for the Climate-KIC-funded "Pioneers into Practice" program in Cyprus.
About the Cyprus Energy Agency
The Cyprus Energy Agency (CEA) is an independent, non-governmental, non-profit organisation, founded in 2009. The Agency has set a vision of a just, inclusive, and climate resilient Cyprus, governed by the principles of sustainability. As such, it supports the Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy initiative, enhancing the role of local authorities in sustainable energy planning. It provides technical support to local authorities in the development and implementation of actions to mitigate and adapt to climate change, supporting them in achieving climate neutrality and resilience.
Since its establishment, CEA has become an information point for local society, providing education and vocational training. It participates in projects, in partnership with local, European, and international organisations, contributing to innovation, research, and sustainable development.
