A business plan to…
The SMART STORAGE COMPASS project empowers members of one of Croatia's first licensed citizen energy communities to make data-driven battery storage investment decisions. Operating across Primorje-Gorski Kotar and Istria counties, we bridge the gap between the rapid growth of residential solar PV and the absence of tailored analytical tools for storage optimization. Through systematic energy profiling of 27 members across 33 connection points, dual-scenario simulations (shared vs. individual battery systems), and rigorous cost-benefit analysis, we equip each member with personalized, evidence-based investment guidance. The outcome: optimal battery solutions that maximize individual financial returns, strengthen community energy resilience, and actively contribute to Croatia's renewable energy transition.
"For the first time, our members won't have to guess whether a battery makes financial sense for them. The ENERCOM grant gives us the resources to answer that question with real data — and to build a tool that every energy community in Croatia can use."
Damir Juričić, PhD. - President, Energy Community
Impact in the community
The project directly benefits 27 energy community members by eliminating investment uncertainty through personalized, data-driven battery storage recommendations. Within 5 years, it is expected to trigger ~€1.275M in battery investments across the region. Beyond the community, the methodology serves as a replicable blueprint for 276,000 potential PV households in PGZ and Istria counties, contributing to grid stability, CO₂ reduction, and accelerating Croatia's renewable energy transition.
