About Cooperativa de Desenvolvimento Sustentável (COOPERNICO)
Cooperativa de Desenvolvimento Sustentável (Coopérnico) is a Portuguese renewable energy cooperative combining a sustainability-oriented approach with social nature, solidarity, education and environmental protection. Coopérnico's mission is to engage citizens and companies in decentralising and democratising the energy system. The cooperative combines renewable energy generations with energy efficiency and retail activities. Coopérnico has over 4.300 members who made joint investments in seventeen RES projects. Together these projects make up for a total capacity of about 2.5 MWp. Members do not only join the cooperative because of financial reasons, they also want to create environmental and social value. In 2019, Coopérnico became the first cooperative retailer in Portugal.
